Data Set Creator - Tutorial

We've created a video tutorial about using the Data Set Creator Wizard which you can watch here.

Data Set Creator Wizard

When you start to use the Data set creator wizard in Vizlib Custom Report, you'll see two options available: Add Data Set and Add Table Data Set.

To display these options, go to Custom Objects, click on a Vizlib Custom Report item and drag it into the sheet. When the data set creator wizard opens, you'll see the two options displayed.

  • If you click Add Data Set (Figure 1), the wizard will open with the available Dimensions, Measures and Fields displayed on the left, and a panel on the right which will display the dimensions, measures and fields you want to use.

  • Select your dimensions, measures or fields using the and icons to add or remove them from the right hand panel.

Note: We recommend using master items for creating data sets, but you can create one without master items. You will need to make sure the data you add is being calculated correctly. With complex applications or expressions, certain dimension/measure combinations may not work, and you may need to adjust them or place them in separate data sets.

  • Once you're happy with the data you've added, click Apply to close the wizard.

  • Choose the measures and dimensions you want to add to display the visualization. You can adjust the visualization type in the top bar menu by clicking on one of the icons.

  • If you click Add Table Data Set (Figure 2), you'll see a dropdown appear with the available table data sets you can use.

  • Select the option you want to use. The wizard will close and display the sheet.

  • Choose the measures and dimensions you want to add to display the visualization. You can adjust the visualization type in the top bar menu by clicking on one of the icons.

Once you've completed the setup, you can find and manage the Data Set dimensions and measures in the property panel in Data Sets, clicking the data set name and opening the Data panel. You can find the article here.

Master Item Tables

If you're looking to set up and work with Master Item tables, please follow these instructions:

  • Create one or more Master Item Table(s) with the dimensions and measures you want to visualize.

Important: Use the Native Table Master Item for this, rather than Vizlib Table.

  • Check your measure calculations are correct regardless of which dimensions are used.

  • Select Master Item in the drop-down or drag and drop it on the visualization.
